On 31 December people around the world unite in their New Year's Eve celebrations, with fireworks, partyingand (most-importantly of all)inspirational posts on social media.
However, instead of one shared moment of rejoicing, the nature of our rotating planet means that the actual moment the new year begins is different for countries across the globe.
So while some of the most easterly places mark New Year on the morning of the 31 December in UK time, others far to the west are still waiting for the big moment more than 24 hours later, when many Brits will be starting 2020 by sleeping off a hangover.
